The new construction will improve driving safety and help traffic flow more smoothly. The traffic signal at the Airport Road and Alkali Creek intersection, which has been the site of numerous accidents over the years, will be eliminated. Traffic will no longer be crossing Airport Road, but will, instead, travel through an underpass.

At Airport Road and 27th Street, the confusing 3-way stop will be eliminated. Instead, a large roundabout will be built to improve traffic flow and safety.

Airport Road will be widened to 4-lanes to improve safety and traffic flow. Visibility (sight distance) and road markings will be improved. Left-turns at important intersections will have dedicated left turn lanes.

Landscaping at the airport roundabout and through out the project, as well as being nice for residents, will be a great introduction to our city for visitors. Finally, new pedestrian and bike paths will give better access to Swords Park and expand the city’s network of paths.
