What is the Airport Road Project?
The Airport Road Reconstruction Project involves safety and traffic flow improvements, including construction of a new interchange at Alkali Creek Road and Aronson Avenue, a roundabout at the airport entrance, and widening of Airport Road to four lanes between Main Street in the Heights and the airport entrance.

The new interchange at Alkali Creek Road will eliminate the current traffic signal and separate Aronson and Alkali Creek traffic headed for downtown via the 6th Avenue bypass from Airport Road traffic. Part of this work will include construction of a bridge to carry Airport Road traffic over the Aronson and Alkali Creek traffic.

A roundabout will be constructed at the Billings Logan International Airport entrance to eliminate the confusing 3-way stop currently in place. The roundabout is designed to improve safety and traffic flow, including flow of the many trucks that use this intersection.

Sections of a bike and pedestrian path are included as part of the project. The path will be carried through box culverts under 27th Street, near the top of the airport hill, and under Airport Road and Alkali Creek Road near the new Aronson Avenue bridge, to separate pedestrians and cyclists from the traffic.
